April 2007 - Breast Cancer Awareness - Playtex Moonwalk

During June 06 the girlies of the Centre ventured down to the Big Smoke, however not for shopping or R&R but to beat it out on the 26.2 miles Playtex Moonwalk starting at Midnight! After plenty of evening and weekend training together, meeting other fellow like minded moonwalkers along the canal banks, the time some came round to fluff up our bras and join the other 32 000 women in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness. There were plenty of times in the early hours of the morning one of you us would want to give up, especially when we were caught in traffic jam for an hour and half but looking around at all the women with pictures of who they've lost or who they're walking for pinned on their hats, t-shirts, bums the lot - you'd soon find the extra energy and spur ON WALKING!

Our team raised a combined £3K and have now decided to take on Mount Snowden in aid of Marie Curie on 7th October 07.

April 2007 - Really Wild At Heart - Big Cat Rescue

Land Rover Experience are proud sponsors of Born Free (link to Born Free section of Fragile Earth page) and we have been watching with delight as the three lions Djunka, Nala and Shada were rescued from a circus in France. Unfortunately last month we were told that Djunka, the magnificent male, had died. A post mortem was carried out at once and revealed that he almost certainly died as a result of a snake bite - possibly a Cape Cobra.

The Born Free website have published the following information following this sad news.

www.bornfree.org.uk

Shamwari is a wild land and the whole point is to offer our lions a semi-wild existence. However, there are other creatures which share the environment, including some poisonous species of snake which live naturally amongst the rocks and undergrowth. Incidents with snakes are thankfully rare but it would appear from the evidence we have that Djunka was bitten and then retreated into the middle of his enclosure where he died.

Everyone at Born Free, One Voice, and everyone at Shamwari is terribly upset by the news. Yesterday we were all, quite simply, lost for words.

However, we thought it important that you know what happened at the earliest opportunity and to advise you that Djunka has been buried at the Rescue Centre.

His life in the circus was, certainly, one of deprivation. His 5 months at Shamwari must have been liberating. He is now at rest in Africa.

Shada, the younger female, is in fine health and Nalla, the older lioness, while she will never overcome her kidney condition, is more than holding her own and we hope has some quality time ahead of her at Shamwari.

April 2007 - 40th Regiment Royal Artillery - Charity Prize Draw

The 40th Regiment Royal Artillery were deployed to Iraq in October 2006. The Brigade and 40th Regiment are based in North Yorkshire and they will return to the UK in June 2007.

During their deployment the Brigade has suffered a number of casualties. For the most part their return to the UK will be an extremely happy period however the delight of being reunited with families is tempered by thoughts of those who did not make it home.

The Commanding Officer of 40th Regiment has encouraged the organisation of a Charity Prize draw and Auction with the money raised being donated to (Light) Brigade Development Fund or the Army Benevolent Fund to benefit the soldiers and families most traumatised by the Iraq deployment.

Land Rover Experience have donated Half Day Adventure with Exclusivity of the vehicle allowing up to four drivers, combined with Tapas Dinner at the Coniston Hotel and we are really please to be able to support the Brigade and Regiment, their soldiers and families. We'll post pictures and details of the auction winner when the event is held later this year.

INTRODUCING THE NEW LANDROVER DISCOVERY

With the all-new Discovery 3, Land Rover enters a brave and exciting new world.

Built from the ground up, theres a radical new exterior, exciting new interior, smart new technology, more space and more room. This is the shape of the future, and simply the best Discovery ever built.

It shows in the bold, striking lines and the sensational new moonroofs - solid glass panels that allow streams of filtered light into the cabin. And it shows in the small but telling details like the single air intake vent.

In this brave new world, the rules are changing. Technology empowers drivers, making driving safer and more comfortable whatever the conditions. Different types of terrain require different settings for suspension, electronic differential slip and Electronic Traction Control. Land Rover have developed and patented an inspired new technology called Terrain Response TM. At the turn of a single dial you can change all these systems to help you negotiate 5 different kinds of terrain in complete control, and all the safer for it.

In the all-new Discovery 3, the future has never looked better, or brighter!

At Land Rover Experience, we have a fleet of new Discovery 3s so you can put this outstanding vehicle through its paces properly in the conditions in which show off its full potential as the world's premier offroader.

CHARITY
In the month of October 2003 we held a very successful charity day for Breast Cancer Care, raising a grand total of £12, 192.42.

The event was held on during October, as I felt this was appropriate being the worldwide awareness month for Breast Cancer, the date also marked our year anniversary.

20 female teams from all over Yorkshire entered in to the spirit of things and tackled the 4x4 challenges but on by our Experience centre.

We are looking to hold another Charity Fundraising Day this year again it will be around the month of October and will be for women. This year we are looking to support Marie Curie Cancer Care Hospice in Bradford.

TRAINING
Challenge Land Rover 2004 is a major training scheme invested by Land Rover and has just taken place at our centre for the third time. This is an excellent and unique training day for all members of staff from the Land Rover Dealerships. Local dealers send groups of staff to the Experience Centre for the day to broaden their knowledge on the products they work with everyday, as well as giving people the chance to experience Land Rover vehicles first hand on off road terrain!

SHOWS
We will be at most of the local Point to Point events this year starting at Helmsley Park on the 21st February.
Trailer demonstrations and lessons will take place at Braham Horse Trails, which take place in the month of May.
